Know Drones Tour comes to Brooklyn: April 12-14

Drone, ReaperThe 2012 Know Drones Tour, a public education campaign focusing on legal, ethical and civil liberties concerns raised by the surge in drone warfare and drone surveillance, begins in Brooklyn, New York on Thursday, April 12, 2012 with sidewalk displays of large-scale replicas of the MQ-9 Reaper drone, the workhorse of drone warfare. PANYS & PA Bay Ridge will be at Friday morning’s action outside Trader Joe’s in Brooklyn at 10:00 am (Court St. & Atlantic Ave.) – come join us!

Thursday, April 12: Borough Hall Farmer’s Market, Brooklyn, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
Friday, April 13: Trader Joe’s, Brooklyn (Court St. & Atlantic Ave.), 10:00 am – 2:00 pm

Petition: Close FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant!

PANYS is one of the founding members of the coalition group Alliance for a Green Economy, or AGREE, started in Syracuse, New York. The FitzPatrick nuclear power plant is just outside of Syracuse in Scriba, NY, and is the exact same design (GE Mark I Boiling Water Reactor) as the nuclear power plant that suffered a meltdown – and is still, more than a year later, leaking radiation into the air, water, and soil – in Fukushima, Japan.

PANYS SANE Act petition on AlterNet!

AlterNet has just published a feature online about the PANYS SANE Act petition and will be sending it out to 140,000 people who receive their newsletter! Thanks to Fund Board Treasurer Don Shaffer and PANYS Field Organizer and Program Assistant Katie Rahill for making this happen – please check it out and pass it on!

PANYS plans to help all 15 of our chapters take the signed petitions to their representatives during a state-wide lobby day the first week of June. Together, we can have an impact on cutting funding for nuclear weapons in favor of funding our communities! Please contact the PANYS office for more information on the lobby day.
